Conference tables

THE BRIEF

The client approached Twenty20 Engineering with a request to design three unique custom conference tables. Each table would be 900mm wide and offered in a range of lengths: 1600mm, 2000mm, 2400mm, 2800mm, and 3200mm. Additionally, the project included:

  • Each table design required shared components to minimise cost.
  • The tables were engineered for lightweight and modular construction, optimising transportation efficiency.
  • Ensure there are no sharp edges and include provisions for rubber pads on the feet to prevent floor scratching.
  • Simple assembly that is achievable by two individuals with basic DIY skills.

CHALLENGE

The main challenge for Twenty20 Engineering in this project was to ensure that as many parts as possible could be used interchangeably among all designs.

Through a comprehensive analysis of each table design, we strategically selected which components we would use across the different types and sizes. The second challenge encountered was ensuring the feasibility of manufacturing various leg styles.

Our design team liaised with the fabrication team to develop the design for the jigs needed for manufacturing. We included these designs in the fabrication package submitted to the client.

RESULT

We successfully designed all three types and sizes of tables. About 80% of the parts made were universal, enabling their use across multiple table styles. This strategy streamlined fabrication processes and reduced costs.

Twenty20 Engineering effectively provided the 3D CAD models, fabrication packs, and schedules for each table design.
