IP66 Electrical Enclosures

THE BRIEF

The client approached TTwenty20 Engineering to design and fabricate a custom IP66 electrical enclosure which could house two fibre optic controllers for an LED advertising screen system. 

The brief comprised:

• Allow a mounting point(s) on the enclosure to the back of the LED screen
• Must be IP66 rated
• Have an IP66-rated inspection hatch so lights on the fibre optic controllers were visible, without opening the enclosure
• Have 10 Ethernet RJ45 Ports, 2x 240VAC PowerPoints and 2 Female Fibre Optic Ports, all IP66 rated External colour to match LED Screens

CHALLENGE

Meeting the customer's critical requirement for an IP66 rating presented a design hurdle. This rating signifies superior protection against dust and water intrusion. After specifying the appropriate off-the-shelf equipment, Twenty20 Engineering proceeded with fabricating the electrical enclosure. The fabrication work was completed to a high standard, preventing water ingress caused by misaligned fixtures and fittings. Before dispatching to the customer, the enclosures underwent thorough hosing with water to verify that no water entered the enclosure.

RESULT

Twenty20 Engineering efficiently sourced and installed the purchased components and fabricated and attached four L brackets to the galvanised steel and powder-coated electrical enclosure. Exceptional craftsmanship and quality were imperative to ensure the customer received an IP66 enclosure. 

Moreover, we managed to deliver the project ahead of schedule.
