The client commissioned us to design and produce 40 safety gates for their LED advertising screens surrounding two football pitches. Given that the screens encircled all sides of the pitch, this posed a safety concern for potential crowd surges and logistical challenges for pitch maintenance.
The gates needed to be easily operable during a crowd surge and robust enough to accommodate the groundsman's equipment onto the pitch. Additionally, they were required to have minimal maintenance requirements over their anticipated 10-year lifespan.
Twenty20 Engineering faced three key challenges:
Additionally, they needed to employ materials and assembly techniques to ensure that the gates lasted their expected lifetime with zero maintenance.
Twenty20 Engineering presented a comprehensive GA, CAD model, and animation for client approval. This effectively showcased that the design had achieved successful screen alignment, hinge positioning, and robustness. Each set of safety gates was subsequently manufactured, assembled, and delivered to each customer site to ensure the screens were installed before the start of the football season.
